Volkswagen AG is ranked among the world‘s most responsible companies. That standing is now under review after the automaker‘s bombshell that it cheated on emissions data.

RobecoSAM AG, the company that along with S&P Dow Jones Indices tracks stocks with the lowest environmental, social and governance risks, „is following the case closely and is already in contact with Volkswagen AG to gain more insights into the case,“ RobecoSAM spokesman Francois Vetri said in an e-mail. „Any decisions by the DJSI Index committee related to VW will be shared with all market participants simultaneously.“

The partners completed an annual review just a week before the Volkswagen scandal came to light. As of changes effective Sept. 21, the carmaker is still a component of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index.
